  My wife and I decided to move to an accountant closer to home and chose to give Summers McNea a try after looking into CPA firms in Billings, MT. We made an appointment with one of the partners. At this initial appointment, the individual we met with was very nice and seemed very thorough in his questions as we went over our business and our personal returns from the previous year. He asked if he could keep our returns for a few days for further review and that he would get back to us then with an estimate of the firm's fees and how we might proceed into the coming tax season. After a week with no communications from Summers McNea, we emailed the partner we met with and asked if we might be hearing from him soon. We received no response. After another week, we tried to call the partner we met with and were told by the receptionist that he had "just stepped out of the office" and were put through to his voice mail. We left a message asking for a return call as soon as possible. We never received a return call. After another week, three weeks from the introductory meeting, we still had not heard a word or received any kind of communication from this partner at Summers McNea. We called the office and asked the receptionist if she would gather the personal tax information we left with the partner "for a few days' review" and have the material ready for pick up in two days' time. Needless to say, we won't be using Summers McNea. If this firm didn't want our business for whatever reason, we could understand that, but the reasonable thing to do in that case would have been to tell us up front or within the "few days'" review time. To ignore emails and phone calls is a poor way for a professional to conduct business. Look elsewhere for your accounting needs.
